360 House
Published: Fri, 2010-09-10 06:05Andrés Silanes, Fernando Valderrama and Carlos Bañón of Subarquitectura has designed the 360 House, which was recently finished in Madrid. The 385 square meter house is designed to meet all the needs of the inhabitants, a numerous family, and all their social relations. Still, Subarquitectura has tried the angle of not thinking of the building as a domestic spaces. Instead, the architects have taken as their point of wives reference works of engineering, motorway intersections and changes of direction. The aim has been to seek the poetic, instead of the merely pragmatic. The result is the literal construction of a diagram, where form does not follow function, but is function itself. Cyclical movement, routine and surprise turn into a way of living.
The formal complexity of the house offers the possibility of reaching all points of it through two different routes, which multiply the possibilities of use and enjoyment. The exterior has the form of a 360º loop, shored up in the landscape and with its back turned on itself. The building's exterior is made in black slate, while the interior is all white, allowing the nature outside and the people inside to shine with their colours.
